Supervisory Authority
The establishment of Taiwan’s Ministry of Sports stems from the long-standing challenges of having sports affairs managed under the education system, where responsibilities were fragmented and policy implementation was limited. To better coordinate national fitness, elite sports, the sports industry, and sports diplomacy, the government decided to elevate the former Sports Administration under the Ministry of Education into an independent Ministry of Sports, officially inaugurated in 2025—a milestone in Taiwan’s sports policy development.
Within this new ministry, the Department of International Affairs plays a strategically vital role. It is responsible for advancing international sports cooperation and exchange, bidding for and hosting global events, supporting national teams’ participation abroad, and promoting the “Team Taiwan” brand. The department also leads Taiwan’s sports diplomacy and global visibility efforts by building partnerships with international sports organizations and regional networks—showcasing Taiwan’s soft power in sports and strengthening its presence on the world stage.
